“Greener Together: Key Prerequisites for Energy Transition in Vietnam” conference
On Thursday, July 20, 2023, Fulbright University Vietnam, in partnership with The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation, will hold the “Greener Together: Key Prerequisites for Energy Transition in Vietnam” conference.
Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8), approved by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in May 2023, reaffirms the country’s commitment to environmental protection. It outlines general frameworks for encouraging and incorporating renewable energy into the national energy supply. These policies will have profound effects on Vietnam’s energy market and every aspect of socio-economic development in the coming decades. In recent months, they have sparked lively discussions among academic circles, business communities, and governmental bodies across Vietnam. However, many profound questions remain unanswered. What will the infrastructure and legal framework necessary to engage the private sector and enable profitable and sustainable investments look like in practice? How do we get there? How will we drive tangible progress in Vietnam’s energy transition?
This conference brings together business leaders, policymakers, industry experts, and prominent academics to engage in sustained dialogue on these questions. The conference will focus on (1) understanding the conditions required for a successful energy transition in Vietnam, (2) evaluating the resources currently available to assist Vietnam in achieving its clean energy ambitions, and (3) exploring the potential for international cooperation in the exchange of capital, technology, and know-how between Vietnam and its critical foreign partners, such as the United States, China, and Japan.
